MTRJ Optical Fiber Connector

MTRJ Optical Fiber Connector

MTRJ stands for Mechanical Transfer Registered Jack. MTRJ is a fiber optic connector that is very popular for small form factor devices due to its small size. Housing two fibers and mating together with locating pins on the plug, the MTRJ comes from the MT connector, which can contain up to 12 fibers.

Sinocomms' MTRJ is one of the newly emerging small form factor connectors that are becoming more common in the networking industry. The MTRJ connectors are usually designed for multi-mode optical fibers but can be used for single mode optical fibers as well. Alignment is completed through the use of two pins that mate with the connector.

Sinocomms' MTRJ connectors are approximately 2.45 mm x 4.4 mm in size and are standardized by the International Electrotechnical Commission. Compared to single fiber terminations such as SC, the MTRJ connector offers lower Termination cost and greater density for both electronics and cable management hardware. The MTRJ Connector is significantly lower in cost and smaller in size than the SC duplex interface. The small MTRJ Interface can be spaced the same as copper, effectively doubling the number of fiber ports.

Features

  • The MTRJ connectors are advantageous because they allow users to take advantage of fiber optic data transfer speeds without purchasing any special equipment or installing specially designed fiber optic systems.
  • The MTRJ connectors are fairly inexpensive and can be connected to any Ethernet-enabled hardware in the same way that an Ethernet cable can be.

Applications

  • The MTRJ is commonly used for networking applications.
  • The MTRJ connectors are used to provide fiber optic speeds to personal computers, servers, commercial workstations, wireless routers, modems, and other devices that have not already been equipped for use with fiber optic cables. The MTRJ connectors are, therefore, a type of hybrid connector between a fiber optic cable and an Ethernet cable.
